Rail
Bridge fixation with angular stability plates is the most widely used method in the treatment of metadiaphyseal and periarticular fractures of the long bones of the lower limb.
Delayed union, pseudo-arthrosis, breakage of fixation devices and asymmetrical bone callus formation are often caused by the rigidity of the implants, which do not allow proper load transfer to the stumps.
The Rail system is designed to offer various screw – plate fixation mechanism through the same implant and create the correct construct depending on the fracture type; through its unique design the Rail system offers three different implantation methods: dynamic, static or angular stability.
The Dynamic option is used to treat cases in which resorption and repositioning occur at the level of the fracture line; in this fashion the compression continues to act on the diaphyseal axis encouraging physiological union and reducing risk of failure.
The Head of the Rail screw has a cylindrical section designed to engage the rail slot onto the plate, allowing the bone to slide and act dynamically; also the screw head design provides a more effective lateral stability compared to conventional screws with hemispherical head.
